Centre Grande Europe

The war in Ukraine has put enlargement back on the European agenda. The Centre Grande Europe is dedicated to analysing this process, with a particular focus on the countries of the Western Balkans. Since its launch in November 2022, thanks to the support of the Open Society Foundation, this centre of the Jacques Delors Institute:

  • provides expertise on the accession process, the various candidate countries, the relations of the rest of the continent with the EU, particularly the United Kingdom, and on the European Political Community with a continental scope.
  • feeds the debate on enlargement in France among various audiences and develops interest in the Balkans (Cercle Balkans).
  • builds links with other major European think tanks on these issues (Balkan Hub) and with candidate countries.

Convinced that enlargement is inherent to the project of a united Europe and responds to a geopolitical imperative, the Centre advocates gradual accession to the European Union and a process that involves all stakeholders at an early stage.
